A single brass line curves down the face and splits it in two: smooth oiled wood on one side, a field of fine vertical slats on the other. It is a simple idea, cleanly done, and it gives a plain round clock a reason to be looked at.
Brass batons mark every hour around the rim and the hands are brass to match. The slatted half reads almost black in low light and warms up completely when the sun crosses it.
45 cm suits most walls — a kitchen, a living room, an office — and the silent sweep movement keeps it quiet enough for a bedroom.
The movement takes one AA battery, which cannot be shipped by air; buy one locally and fit it in seconds.

Dust with a dry, soft cloth. Keep it off damp walls and out of long direct sunlight; wood moves a little with the seasons, which is normal. A light coat of furniture oil once a year keeps the colour rich.
