A tall panel of fine vertical slats sits behind a single ribbon of wood that twists from top to bottom and loops around the dial on its way past. The slats give the piece its texture; the ribbon gives it movement.
The dial is recessed into the ribbon's loop, with slim brass hands and brass batons at every hour. Because the ribbon is shaped by hand, the highlight running along it shifts as you cross the room.
There is no light in this piece — it is pure woodwork, and it suits a room that already has lamps. The movement is a silent sweep, so there is no ticking. Hang it on one screw and level it.
The clock movement takes a single AA battery, which cannot be sent by air; pick one up locally and fit it in a few seconds.

Dust with a dry, soft cloth. Keep it off damp walls and out of long direct sunlight; wood moves a little with the seasons, which is normal. A light coat of furniture oil once a year keeps the colour rich.
